About me
I'm Dan. An engineer who builds the tools small businesses run on.
I've spent my career as a design engineer, most recently leading design engineering for a robotics and automation firm, and before that building websites and CRMs. The common thread is the same: understand how something really works, then build the simplest thing that does the job properly.
Daniel Tyas Design is me putting that to work for businesses near home. I don't hand you to a team. I come and see you, I ask a lot of questions, and I build what the answers say you need. When it's live I'm still here to look after it.
It isn't only software I build. Plenty of small businesses come to me first because the everyday digital side is a mess: email on a personal address, nobody sure who owns the domain, files on three laptops, and no safe way to get at anything from home. I set up Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, email, shared files, remote access and VPNs, and company portals, so the business owns all of it and it just works. I don't do on-site hardware, printers or networks.
The jobs I like best are the ones where a bit of well-placed software takes a weight off someone. A quoting process that used to take an evening. A customer list that was in three spreadsheets. If that sounds like your business, we should talk.
How a project runs
-
Listen
We meet, in person if we can. I ask how the work flows now and what gets in the way. No pitch.
A free first conversation
-
Spec
I write up what you need, based on what I saw and heard, with a fixed price. You check it before anything is built.
A written spec and a fixed price
-
Build
Drafts first, then the real thing. You see it as it takes shape and tell me what's wrong.
Most websites are live in two to four weeks
