Websites

Websites for small businesses across West Yorkshire.

A site that says what you do, brings in the right enquiries, and is simple to keep up to date. I design it, build it, write the first draft of the words, put it live and look after it, and I'll come and see you first.

An example website for a joinery firm called Calder and Finch, shown in a desktop browser with the same page on a phone beside it. The headline reads Kitchens and furniture, made to fit your home, above an illustration of a green fitted kitchen.
An example for the same invented joinery firm as the CRM. One site that reads well on a desktop and on a phone.

What you get

What a website costs

Everything has a fixed price agreed before anything is built, and the first conversation is free. Most websites are live two to four weeks after we agree the brief.

The build, agreed before anything starts
£750 to £1,500
Depending on what's in it. A fixed price, so there are no surprises.
Looking after it

£50 a month

Keeps the site running

  • Hosting, the security certificate and domain renewals
  • Security and software updates
  • Nightly backups kept off-site
  • Uptime monitoring
  • Fixes for anything I built that breaks
  • A reply by the next working day

£99 a month

Keeps it improving

  • Everything in the £50 plan
  • Two hours of content changes each month
  • A quarterly check on speed, search visibility and broken links
  • A reply the same working day
Month to month, with no lock-in. The domain is registered in your name and the content is yours, with a full handover if you ever leave. New pages, features, redesigns and photography are quoted separately.

How it runs

  1. Listen

We meet, in person if we can. I ask how your business works and what you need the site to do. No pitch.

  2. Spec

I write up what you need, with a fixed price. You check it before anything is built.

  3. Build

Drafts first, then the real thing. You see it as it takes shape and tell me what's wrong.

Most sites are live in two to four weeks

  4. Keep it working

Hosting, updates and small changes on a monthly plan, and bigger developments quoted as they come up.

Questions people ask about websites

How much does a website cost?

A fixed price between £750 and £1,500, agreed before any work starts. The price depends on how many pages you need and what they have to do. I am not VAT registered. New pages, redesigns and photography are quoted separately. For what moves the price up or down, see how much a website costs in the UK.

Who owns the website and the domain?

You do, in writing. The domain is registered in your name from the start, the code is yours and so is the content. While you are on a care plan the site is hosted under my account. If you leave, you get a full handover. More in what to ask a web designer.

How long does a website take?

Two to four weeks from an agreed brief to live. The thing that usually stretches it is waiting on logos, photos or sign-off, so the sooner those arrive the sooner it goes live.

What do I need to give you?

Your logo and a conversation. I draft the text from our conversation as part of the fixed price, and you correct it. If you have photos, send them. If you do not, photography is quoted separately, or I buy stock images under a licence in your name, pass the cost on at what it cost me, and hand you the receipt.

What is the care plan, and do I need one?

The £50 a month plan keeps the site running: hosting, the security certificate and domain renewals, security and software updates, nightly off-site backups with restores tested, uptime monitoring, fixes for anything I built that breaks, and a reply by the next working day. The £99 plan adds two hours of content changes a month, a quarterly check on speed, search visibility and broken links, and a reply the same working day. The two hours do not roll over. Both are month to month with no lock-in, and the plan prices can change, with notice.

You do not have to take one. If you would rather host the site elsewhere, I hand over the files and you are away. Full detail in what a website care plan covers.

Will it be built on WordPress?

Not by default. I write the site myself rather than assembling it from a theme and plugins, so there are fewer outside parts to keep updated and less code to slow it down. If you ask for WordPress, I will build on it. The trade-offs are in WordPress or a custom website.
