What people say after the job
Daniel Tyas Design is new, but the work isn't. These are from people I've built things for.
“We've worked with Dan for fourteen years. He built our previous website and has kept it running ever since, so when he suggested it was time for a new one we didn't need persuading. The old site had got slow and dated and he explained why in plain terms, without any jargon.
The new site was live within two weeks. It's fast, it works properly on a phone, and it shows people what we do and how to get hold of us, which is all we wanted from it. Dan took care of the whole thing and checked with us at each step rather than disappearing and coming back with a surprise.
He's reliable, honest about what's worth doing and what isn't, and he picks up the phone. We'd recommend him to any business around Huddersfield.”
“I approached Dan to ask for his help with a brand new phase of development for West Yorkshire County Scouts Archive & Heritage Museum.
We have a small museum which has a myriad of items, including a large amount of documents. Due to many reasons, we were in need of completely restarting the cataloguing and referencing all our artefacts. We also wanted to get the documents held digitised to secure it for the future and make it readily accessible to all from the comfort of their own home.
Dan met with us, listened carefully to our requirements and how we actually use the collection at present, and the improvements we were looking for, then went away and constructed a system around all those elements.
He has provided us with a purpose built database which is ideal for all our needs. Dan met back up with my team to give everyone a lesson on how to use it. He spoke in plain, easy to understand words, no jargon or technical words to bamboozle us, and went into careful detail when required. Dan really helped with his friendly personal approach and has been there from the very start of our project, and is still with us at the end of the phone, email or in person if needed to make little adjustments as we make progress and discover extra things we hadn't thought of. Dan has always been upfront, friendly and professional.
The database itself does the plain things well: we can catalogue a record, add all the information and photos required, search for it, and edit it over and over, as we discover more about it. We are also approaching the point where we are ready to launch it live to the world. Dan has explained to me a number of times that it's not clever for the sake of it. It just works, and it's quick. He is of course correct, but to myself and the team this is a tremendous thing that Dan has made for us and we are very much in his debt.
Due to the nature of our archival documents we have a great deal of sensitive material that for a number of reasons can not actually be made public, but still need digitising. Dan's purpose built database includes a GDPR scan as all items are uploaded onto it, it then provides a report, and flags up any items it considers a possible risk. It has been created to be over sensitive (which is exactly how we prefer it). Through discussion with us, Dan has created a holding area, where I can look at all those items flagged as a risk and make the final decision myself rather than AI making the call, thus ensuring the right things stay protected and nothing goes public that shouldn't.
Dan has been a Godsend to our team: friendly and approachable throughout, easily contactable and ready to explain things when needed, turns changes around quickly, and clearly cares about getting it right rather than just getting it done. The WYC Scouts Archive & Heritage Experience is in a far better state than it was, and we'd happily recommend him.”
“Dan created our website with creativity and efficiency. I’m so grateful for his approach: he was always available for me to ask questions and I felt listened to every step of the way. I’m very pleased with the results and would highly recommend!”
